1 percent now owns more than at any time in the past 50 years

The top 20 percent of households own 90 percent of the stuff in America Their average net worth? $3 million. That leaves just 10 percent of the pie for the remaining 80 percent of the populace. The American top 1 percent gobble up twice as much (40 percent) as the top 1 percent in France, the U.K., or Canada, and more than three times as much as the top 1 percent in Finland.

Tax Cuts and Supply Side Economics

It is economic incentive that drives enterprise, not the supposed nobility of spirit of the wealthy. That idea is aristocracy. Our nation is founded on the self-evident truth that aristocracy is a lie, and that powerful elites do not share their money, power, and privilege with the people. We now have a new aristocracy, created by transferring literally trillions of dollars in wealth to the wealthiest people in our society

Ted Cruz recuses self on anything before 1970

[Q]: A third Texas president, L.B.J., created Medicare in the mid-’60s. Your hero Ronald Reagan campaigned vigorously against that, saying it would lead to socialized medicine, would end liberty in the United States. Who was right: L.B.J. or Reagan?
[Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz]: It’s not worth tilting at windmills. I don’t know. I wasn’t alive then.
Who was right? Who’s to say? That was in the before-times. I have no opinions on the before-times.

Enjoying the Low Life?

The United States is the most powerful colossus in the history of the world: Our nuclear warheads could wipe out the globe, our enemies tweet on iPhones, and kids worldwide bop to Beyoncé.
Yet let’s get real. All this hasn’t benefited all Americans. A newly released global index finds that America falls short, along with other powerful countries, on what matters most: assuring a high quality of life for ordinary citizens.
The Social Progress Index for 2015 ranks the United States 16th in the world. We may thump our chests and boast that we’re No.

Tom Cotton : He’d prefer war.

Tom Cotton will try to block Iran deal at any cost. He’d prefer war..

what does Cotton want? Not war, he insisted. But military action that is not war … that he’d be good with. Calling it war is a false choice, according to Cotton, but bombing Iran could be in a separate category.

Deterring an Iranian Nuclear Breakout

Those like Mr. Netanyahu who have opposed any agreement except on terms that cannot be realized should not engage in wishful thinking about the likelihood of such alternative approaches succeeding. They should be clear-eyed in comparing these alternatives with the kind of agreement that can be realized. Of course, if Iran is not prepared to accept a reasonable deal, the United States would have little choice but to turn to nondiplomatic approaches.

Income Distribution

For the life of me I can not understand why people keep supporting politicians who have been bought and paid for by the likes of the Koch brothers and the oil and gas industry.
“$100 from 2 million people … a total of $200 million … is 20 percent of what the Koch brothers themselves are prepared to spend. … Maybe the game is over. Maybe they have bought the United States government. Maybe there is no turning back. Maybe we’ve gone over the edge. I don’t know. I surely hope not.

Hobby Lobby and Religious Freedom

July 11 2014
“The end of democracy and the defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed incorporations.” ~ Thomas Jefferson
Corporations, which should be the carefully restrained creatures of the law and the servants of the people, are fast becoming the people’s masters.

Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Hawkins

“… I consider the business of hunting as already become insufficient to furnish clothing and subsistence to the Indians. The promotion of agriculture, therefore, and household manufacture, are essential in their preservation, and I am disposed to aid and encourage it liberally. … In truth, the ultimate point of rest & happiness for them is to let our settlements and theirs meet and blend together, to intermix, and become one people. Incorporating themselves with us as citizens of the U.S. … And we have already had an application from a settlement of Indians to become citizens of the U.S.

Thomas Jefferson, to his grandchildren, March 2

I love this one. A letter from the President of the United States, to his grandchildren.
I am very happy to find that two of you can write. I shall now expect that whenever it is inconvenient for your papa and mama to write, one of you will write on a piece of paper these words `all is well’ and send it for me to the post office. I am happy too that Miss Ellen can now read so readily.

Anger and Fear

Anger and Fear.
“Three types of anger are recognized by psychologists:
The first … is connected to the impulse for self-preservation. It is shared between humans and non-human animals and occurs when tormented or trapped.
The second type of anger … is a reaction to perceived deliberate harm or unfair treatment by others. ….
The third type of anger is … related … to character traits …”
“… angry people are more likely … to blame a person's behavior … on his nature than on his circumstances.

The Bill of Rights

James Madison’s draft of the Bill of Rights was prepared and introduced shortly after the First Congress convened in 1789.
Quoted from:
 http://ratify.constitutioncenter.org/constitution/index_no_flash.php
“The Preamble to The Bill of Rights
Congress of the United States
begun and held at the City of New-York, on Wednesday the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.
THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending

The 1st amendment

All these people who keep yelling about the Constitution and how it’s being violated by the government and keep insisting that “This is a Christian country.” and  claiming the government is carrying on a “War on religion” need to read it.
Here’s a link to the constitution.

And here’s what the 1st amendment actually says:
¨Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;

Separation of Church and State

“This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary not with-standing.”
